Football-Shaped Cake

Ingredients:
Cake-Shaping Strip (from 6 sushi-mat segments)
Heavy-duty aluminum foil
Sheet pan
Prepared cake batter (see the Chocolate Nutella Cake batter or prepare batter using about 2 boxes of cake mix)
Chocolate frosting (see the Nutella Buttercream Frosting recipe or use about 2 (16-ounce) containers of store-bought chocolate frosting)
White fondant (use a portion of our Easy Marshmallow Creme Fondant recipe) or white frosting (for decoration)
Paper towel
Red food dye (optional)

Instructions:
1. Line a sheet pan with two sheets of aluminum foil. Shape the Cake-Shaping Strip into a shape of a football. Wrap the bottom foil layers around the strip.

2. Prepare your cake batter. Spray the strip and foil with cooking spray. Pour the cake batter into the prepared "pan" and bake until done. Let the cake cool.

3. Cut away any cake batter that leaked through the strip. Carefully remove the Cake-Shaping Strip. Insert the flat edge of a table knife between the strip and the cake if this helps.

4. If desired, add red tint to the chocolate frosting by adding red food dye. Frost the cake with the chocolate frosting. Let the frosting completely dry.

5. Place a paper towel over the frosting. Move your hand in circular motions over the paper towel. This will smooth the frosting and add a subtle impression of the paper towel's texture to the cake's surface. Repeat this process over the entire cake.

6. Use the fondant or white icing to add the front and back strips and the threads to the football cake.
